We've Come a mighty long way....or have we?
Its funny how you look back and truly see how far the African American culture has come. While in class on Friday we watched a video of Martin Luther King Jr , the bus boycott and the story of Rosa Parks. This video was hosted by Miriam Thomas along with 3 other prestige guest one of them being Benjamin Ruffin, the person which New Baynes was named after. Every time I watch something that has to do with black history it makes me want to cry because everyday i thank god for allowing me to be here where I am today. If it wasn't for Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, and many of the other people who fought for me to be here to get my education, to drink from the same fountains as the white, i would probably still be picking cotton in the fields like my ancestors. Although I'm glad that we have came a mighty long way, I truly agree with the panelist, how for have we really come? Sometimes I think people take what our ancestors did for us for granted. I truly do believe that we have lost respect for our elders, when they are the one who brought us to where we are. Just because we have came up into the world a little bit as Miriam Thomas said we are still the minority group. This has all lead into the business field in today's society. Where black people aren't as active in Business as we should be. Ben Ruffin stated that "our black determination is not there anymore", "but maybe it's because we don't know where we want to go and still not sure where we come from. Even though we didn't get a chance to watch the whole thing hopefully we will finish the tape and I get a chance to update this blog.
