Obama's MY 44th President !!!!

If it was up to me I would pronounce January 20Th a holiday, the day My president Barack Obama was sworn into the white house. On this festive day Sen. Diane Fierstein was the Mistress of Ceremony, Rev Rick Warren prayed over everyone and Barack Obama and his family. Then Aretha Franklin the queen of soul sang, My Country Ti's of thee, when she got up there and sang the look of some of the people in the audience was emotions of pure happiness and joy. Cicely Tyson truly brought a tear to my eye when she was just overjoyed to see that her 44Th president is Barack Obama. At Approx 12:07 President elect Obama became President Barack Hussein Obama. In his speech to the people he told us to be humble, grateful, and mindful of everything because we are in a bind as a whole but together it may take a while but we will be on our feet again. When they showed the Tuskegee's airmen in the audience,I just broke down and cried because this is an important time in our history and they were there to witness this all take place. Barack also stated "Hope over fear " and that "all of us are equal and all of us are free". TO see whites blacks, Mexicans, Asians, and all in the crowd was def a joy us thing to look at.
"Gathering clouds and raging storms"(Lincoln), brought everyone together to hear Obama speak. Obama is a Christan man I believe what he says he will claim and speak truth into his words and we as a whole will and can reconstruct this country. The Benediction was given by Rev Joesph Lowery, he started off with the National Negro Anthem. "God of our weary years, God of our silent tears," and ended with ... help us work for that day when black will not be asked to give back, when brown can stick around, when yellow will be mellow, when the red man can get ahead, man, and when white will embrace what is right."Let all who do justice and love mercy say amen and say amen. What a way to end a beautiful Program. This will day will soon be in all of our text books! This day was counted as the biggest turn out of African Americans since the Million Man March!

We've Come a mighty long way....or have we?

Its funny how you look back and truly see how far the African American culture has come. While in class on Friday we watched a video of Martin Luther King Jr , the bus boycott and the story of Rosa Parks. This video was hosted by Miriam Thomas along with 3 other prestige guest one of them being Benjamin Ruffin, the person which New Baynes was named after. Every time I watch something that has to do with black history it makes me want to cry because everyday i thank god for allowing me to be here where I am today. If it wasn't for Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King Jr, and many of the other people who fought for me to be here to get my education, to drink from the same fountains as the white, i would probably still be picking cotton in the fields like my ancestors. Although I'm glad that we have came a mighty long way, I truly agree with the panelist, how for have we really come? Sometimes I think people take what our ancestors did for us for granted. I truly do believe that we have lost respect for our elders, when they are the one who brought us to where we are. Just because we have came up into the world a little bit as Miriam Thomas said we are still the minority group. This has all lead into the business field in today's society. Where black people aren't as active in Business as we should be. Ben Ruffin stated that "our black determination is not there anymore", "but maybe it's because we don't know where we want to go and still not sure where we come from. Even though we didn't get a chance to watch the whole thing hopefully we will finish the tape and I get a chance to update this blog.

What happens the day after Obama________________?

On Friday we watched a video of Byron Pitts speaking at the TABS Banquet. During the time of us watching this tape I kind of felt like I was back in church from the way he was giving his speech, rather then at a banquet. They way he delivered his speech caught many of the people in the audience attention from the responses being "yessss", "alright now" and many more of that nature. Even though his deliverance threw me off a little bit I still felt where he was coming from in his message. The most interesting part of his speech was when he stated that " Everyone who is your color is not your kind". This valid statement made me think of how many times my mother has told me just because you are black dosent mean that you can trust everyone else who is your same color, because they will stab you in the back just as well as the white man or the mexican, or even the Arab man. If I had to fill in the sentence What Happens the day after Obama _____before the actually election it would have stated, What happens the day after Obama is our 44th president of the United States. I beleive in what Byron said in his speech, Claim your dreams and speak truth into them. I knew Obama was going to be my president there was never a doubt in my mind that he didnt have it in the bag. I feel that Barack Obama followed the B.E.G.theroy, that Byron explained. Begin, Endure, and Gain. He began in harvard starting off fighting for political corectness, then he endured many trials and tribulations to get to where he needed to be and now he has gained the position of our 44th president of the united states of america. This speech that Byron pitts made touched me more with his word then his deliverance. I recommend that people pay close attention to many of his words if you ever get the chance to hear him speak.

Why I Did It: Mass Media and Society

I decided to come to North Carolina Central University to pursue my career in the Mass Comm Industry. When I found out the classes that I had to take Media and society was a main course that was required. I was very interested in this class because I knew that Mr. Chambers was going to be my teacher and he was great in Intro to Mass Comm. I feel that this Mass Media and society class is going to give me a better knowledge and understanding of how Media and todays world relate to each other. This class can and will truly help me in the long run to enhance myself in the Entertainment field.
